Track and Field Finishes Indoor Season at ECAC/IC4A Championships

BOSTON, Mass. – The UMBC track and field teams finished their indoor seasons competing at the women's ECAC Championships at the Reggie Lewis Track Center and men's IC4A Championships at Boston University.

At the women's meet, freshman Mercedes Jackson (Huntington, Md./Huntington) picked up two more top-10 finishes to complete her initial campaign.  Jackson, who holds the school record in both the 60m and 200m dash, placed seventh (7.61) in the short sprint, while taking eighth place (24.92) in the 200m.

America East Most Outstanding Field Performer, junior Amanda Deller (Aberdeen, Md./Abedeen), finished 20th in weight throw with a toss of 15.77m (51'9").

At the IC4A meet, senior Josh Hewitson (New Market, Md./Linganore) placed sixth in the 500m run, just off his UMBC record pace, finishing in a time of 1:03.66

Junior Shioma Obemeata (New Rochell, N.Y./Iona Preparatory/St. Francis College) also picked up a top-10 finish for the men, taking ninth in the triple jump with a personal-best leap of 14.62m (47'11.75"). Obemeata's jump moves him up to fourth on UMBC's all-time list.

In the high jump, sophomore Mo Drammeh (Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson) placed tenth for the Retrievers, clearing 2.04m (6'8.25"), which matches his career-best.

The Retrievers now head outside to prepare for the upcoming outdoor track and field season.  UMBC's first scheduled meet will be the Maryland Invitational on March 31 in College Park, Md.
