BALTIMORE – The UMBC outdoor track and field team will divide themselves once again this weekend and travel north and south for their respective meets. A small number of distance runners will travel to Bucknell University to partake in the Bison Open while the larger portion of the team will travel to the Sea Ray Relays taking place at the University of Tennessee.
Still dominating the on track, freshmen Mercedes Jackson (Huntington, Md./Huntington) took the gold in the 200m and bronze in the 100m against at last week's Duke Invite. She also teamed with Ebonique Jones (New Castle, Del./William Penn), Briana Young (Bowie, Md./Elizabeth Seton), Imani Colbert(Upper Marlboro, Md./C.H. Flowers)to break the school record in the 4x100 relay in a time of 47.07.
Teammate Paulette Fogle (Washington, D.C./Bishop McNamara) is No.2 all-time in UMBC history the 400m hurdles with her time of 1:03.12 on the Durham track.
Distance runner Cody Mezebish (Westminster, Md./South Carroll) also shined last weekend and her 800m time of 2:16.34 has her ranked No.4 all-time.
Field performer Chrissy Robinson (Lusby, Md./Patuxent) continued her strong senior campaign and now has the No.3 all-time mark in the discus with a toss of 41.16m (135'0"). Classmate Laura Walker (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) still holds the school record in pole vault after bettering her own mark by clearing 3.35m (10'11.75") at the Liberty Collegiate Invitational.
For the men, distance runners TJ Cowing (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) and Tommy Eldridge (Rocky River, Ohio/Rocky River) now hold the No.2 and No.5 spots on the 10k leader board respectively with their performances last weekend.
On the field, senior Aaron Brooks (Upper Marlboro, Md./Dematha) finished third in the shot and fourth in the discus at the Liberty Invite last weekend. Teammate Cameron McDearmon (Owings Mills, Md./Franklin) performed in the hammer throw earning a personal-best (52.01m, 170'8") to bring him to No.3 on the all-time list. Ray Stinsman III (Mt. Laurel, N.J./Lenape) also performed well (48.91m, 160'5") garnering the No.7 position on the school leader board.
UMBC will begin competition at the Sea Ray Relays on Friday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. and will pick up again on Saturday at 2:10 p.m. The Bison Open will begin with the women's 1500m at 4:15 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
