Ithaca, N.Y. – Four Retrievers earned double-wins as the UMBC women's tennis team defeated America East rival Binghamton, 5-2, in a match played at Cornell.
The Retrievers improved to 3-5 on the spring, bouncing back from a 7-0 defeat at host Cornell on Saturday.
Senior Shannon Cleary (Little Bay, NSW, Australia) teamed with sophomore Laura Ambrozic (Portoroz, Slovenia) to win a 6-4 decision at No. 1 doubles. UMBC captured the doubles point as sophomore Alice Taylor (Great Gransden, England) and freshman Maria Siopacha (Limassol, Cyprus) captured a convincing 6-2 victory at the No. 2 position.
Siopacha earned her second victory of the day, winning in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3 over Sara Kohtz a the No. 1 position. Taylor, Cleary and Ambrozic all moved up in the lineup and all came through with victories. Taylor outlasted Agatha Ambrozy at the No. 3 slot, 7-6 (4), 7-5, Cleary cruised past Shea Brodsky, 6-4, 6-1, at the No. 1 position and Ambrozic rallied for a three-set triumph at the No. 5 position, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, over Olga Ostrovetsky.
The Retrievers are off until they visit the state of Texas over spring break.
