Women's Tennis Captures Doubles, But Drops Narrow 4-3 Decision to GW

BALTIMORE – UMBC captured the doubles point, but visiting George Washington captured four of six singles matches to edge the Retrievers, 4-3, on Feb. 5 at 40 West Racquet Club.

UMBC's Nos. 2 and No. 3 tandems led the way in doubles as freshman Maria Siopacha and senior Shannon Cleary triumphed, 6-3, at the No. 2 position and sophomores Alice Taylor and Charlotte Tonjann won, 6-2, at the No. 3 slot.

Taylor and Cleary also captured their singles matches, with the sophomore downing Nedenander, 6-2, 6-7, 6-1 at the No. 4 position and Cleary taking a straight set victory over Kogan, 6-4, 6-2.

UMBC travels to Connecticut next weekend for matches versus Hartford and Fairfield.
