BALTIMORE – The UMBC women's tennis match versus Temple, scheduled for Friday, April 4, has been postponed due to weather conditions. Both teams will face the Xavier Musketeers on Saturday at 11:00 a.m at the UMBC Tennis Complex.
The Retrievers will have to shake some of the rust off after last weekend's cancellations. The women's last match was on Thursday, March 20 at Sacramento State. On the men's side, the Retrievers last played on Sunday, March 23 against No. 54 George Washington.
For the women, senior Josefin Stange-Jonsson (Vasteras, Sweden) leads the squad with a 9-4 singles mark. On the men's side, junior Daniel Gray (Bowie, Md./The Bullis School) and sophomore Melker Svard (Gothenburg, Sweden) share the team lead with singles marks of 9-5.
The Xavier women's team saw their four match win streak come to an end against Big East conference opponent Marquette this weekend. After splitting the singles points 3-3, the Musketeers lost twice in doubles, sealing their defeat. The loss put Xavier at 13-4 for the season. Before they play the Retrievers, the Musketeers have a scheduled match at George Washington on Friday.
Xavier's men's team (10-9) had the same result, a 4-3 loss to Marquette this weekend. After picking up the doubles point, the Musketeers only won matches at the three and six positions. The team blanked Wright State, 7-0, on Wednesday to complete its home slate at 4-0. Xavier is scheduled to play at Georgetown on Friday, April 4 as they make their way to Baltimore.
UMBC's men's team will travel to William & Mary on Sunday, April 6 for their next match. Both teams will host Georgetown on Wednesday, April 9.
