Sahoo, Berghaus, Jackman Earn America East Women's Tennis All-Conference Honors

Cambridge, Mass.- Three UMBC Retrievers earned America East All-Conference honors in selections made by the league's head coaches.


Graduate student Shalini Sahoo (New Dehli, India) earned first team honors in singles competition. while the tandem of senior Carmen Jackman (Silver Spring, Md./Blake) and sophomore Kim Berghaus (Offenbach, Germany) earned first team accolades in doubles play.


Both Jackman and Berghaus earned second team honors in singles.  


Sahoo compiled a team-best singles mark of 21-9 in her lone year of competition at UMBC. She finished the season competing at the No. 1 singles flight. Sahoo was voted UMBC's Athlete of the Month for March, 2012.


Jackman and Berghaus worked as a doubles team for the entire 2011-12 year, winning 22 of 32 matches at the No. 1 position. The tandem won matches in both the semifinal and title matches at the America East Championships.


Competing primarily at the No. 3 snigles position, Jackman won a career-best 14 singles matches and finished her career with 106 total victories.


Berghaus, the 2011 America East Rookie of the Year, went 19-11 at Nos. 1 and 2 singles and led the Retrievers in total victories with 40 in 2011-12.
