Charlottesville, Va.--The women's tennis team concluded the fall portion of its schedule at the 2010 ITA Atlantic regions at the University of Virginia.
In the singles draw, sophomore Heidi Danielsson (Jokonping,, Sweden) won her opening qualifying match over Timko of Marshall, 6-2, 6-1, but did not qualify for the main draw as she fell, 7-5, 6-2 to F. Perrotta of Penn State.
Junior Carmen Jackman (Silver Spring, Md./Blake) and freshman Kim Berghaus (Offenbach, Germany) both won their opening matches to advance to the round of 64. Jackman defeated E. LIzana of Towson, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1, but fell to sixth-seeded J. Hjertquist of VCU, 6-3, 7-6 (0). Berghaus dispatched of Liberty's H. Fick, 6-2, 6-0, but lost a tough three-set decision to 10th-seeded J. Sanford of Maryland, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
Jackman combined with freshman Josefin Stange-Jonsson (Vasteras, Sweden) to defeat S. Stainier/T. Walsh of St. Joseph's, 8-2, in the opening round of doubles play. In the round of 32, the top-seeded Virginia duo of E. Fraser/H. Tomljanovic blanked the Retriever duo, 8-0.
