BOSTON, Mass. – The UMBC swimming and diving team has swept the America East Performer of the Week awards for the week ending January 8, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon. The awards come after UMBC defeated Howard and America East opponent Vermont on Saturday.
This is the second time this season that UMBC has swept both Swimmers and Divers of the Week awards, the first coming the week of October 11.
Junior Hania Moro (New Cairo, Egypt) and senior Philip Adejumo (Elkridge, Md./Howard) earned the swimming awards, while sophomore Abby Biddulph (Egg Harbor City, N.J.) and junior Elijah Wright (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) earned the diving honors.
Moro earned Female Swimmer of the Week after leading the ladies with wins in the 200 free (1:52.33), 500 free (5:02.81), and 1000 free (10:18.30), while Biddulph takes home Female Diver of ther Week after earning first in the 1 and 3 meter dives with scores of 220.60 and 227.05, respectively.
Adejumo earned Male Swimmer of the Week after picked up individual victories in the 100 free (47.23) and 200 free (1:41.95), both personal-bests, while also helping the men break a pool record in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:32.32. Wright was awarded Male Diver of the Week after earning first in the 1 meter dive with a score of 285.20.
The Retrievers will return to the pool on Saturday, January 20 when they host East Carolina and VMI at 2 p.m. The team will also recognize their graduating seniors prior to the meet.
