BOSTON, Mass. – For the first time since the 2012-13 season, the UMBC swimming and diving teams have swept all four America East Performer of the Week awards, the conference office announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Junior Hania Moro (New Cairo, Egypt) and sophomore Ilia Rattsev (Moscow, Russia) took how the swimming awards, while sophomore Abby Biddulph (Egg Harbor City, N.J.) and junior Elijah Wright (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) earned the diving honors.
Moro earns her first Female Swimmer of the Week award after helping UMBC comeback to win its first meet of the year over Seton Hall, 156-114, by swimming the first leg of the 400 free relay in which the Retrievers took first place with a time of 3:34.63.
Moro also took first in three individual events in the 200 free (1:54.71), 500 free (5:07.01), and 1,000 free (10:29.49).
Biddulph takes home Female Diver of the Week after placing second in both the 1 and 3 meter dives. She scored a 212.18 in the 1 meter and 194.63 in the 3 meter.
After rejoining the America East since leaving for the CCSA in the 2013 season, Rattsev and Wright take home Male Swimmer and Diver of the Week honors, respectively.
Rattsev won three events on the day in the 200 free (1:40.44), 100 free (45.82), and 50 free (21.15), while Wright took first place in both diving disciplines. He scored 240.75 in the 1 meter dive and 234.98 in the 3 meter.
