Cambridge, Mass.-- UMBC junior Coco Darelius took home her fifth America East Diver of the Week honors, as announced by the conference office. The Retrievers are coming off a 188-112 loss to East Carolina to close out the regular season.
Darelius took gold in the one meter dive against the Pirates, scoring 261.15. She would follow that up with a second place finish in the three meter dive with a score of 267.30. Both scores were the best among all America East divers this past week.
Coco previously broke her own record in the 3 meter dive, scoring 324.00 against George Washington. Her previous record was 300.60, which was set at the CCSA North Invitational on October 18-19 in Baltimore. Darelius then went on to score a 294.98 on the 1 meter boards, which was good enough to shatter the previous record. Coco scored 13 points better than the previous record, held by Ashley Houghton (281.48), set back in 2006.
The Retrievers will have three divers represented at the NCAA Zone Diving Championships in March. Along with Darelius, seniors Ryan Green (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) and Pak Lam Wong (Hong Kong/Kowloon Technical School) will represent UMBC at the event.
UMBC returns to the pool at the America East Championships on February 12-15 in Worcester, Mass. The men will head to the CCSA Championships at the University of Georgia on February 18-21.
