Video Highlights

BALTIMORE, Md. – Junior Gabby Boehmer (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) had her first career multi-goal game as she helped to lead the UMBC women's soccer team to a 3-1 win over the Delaware State Hornets on Sunday afternoon. The Retrievers moved to 3-5-0 on the season while the Hornets fell to 2-5-0.

Boehmer's first goal of the day gave UMBC a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute, after classmate Madison Koenig (Crofton, Md./South River) fed the ball into the box and freshman Nikki Saad (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) headed it towards the net. The ball landed at Boehmer's feet and she was able to tap it in past the goalkeeper.

In the 57th minute, redshirt-senior Alexa Quaranta (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) drove up the field and crossed the ball in towards the box, where Boehmer was able to head it in below the crossbar to give the Retrievers a 2-0 advantage.

Delaware State would get on the board in the 68th minute when freshman Braxton Clark played a cross into the box and one-touched it in to the goal. However, less than a minute later, UMBC would add another goal as junior Virginia Moyer (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown Area) headed a score after freshman Jessica Hopkins (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) threw in a pass that bounced toward Moyer.

The win helped to break a four-game losing streak, similar to last season when UMBC defeated Delaware State, 1-0 to end a four-game skid as well.

Overall, the Retrievers outshot the Hornets, 30-8, including a 16-1 advantage in the first half and a 14-1 shots on goal differential. UMBC also led in the corner kick battle, 13-4; Delaware State's corner kicks all came in the second half.

Boehmer finished the day with eight shots, five on goal, followed by five other players with three shots. In goal, sophomore Leah Roth (Valencia, Pa./Pine-Richland) made no saves with only one goal against. Delaware State's goalies Michele Lammers and Leslie Fazio split time in the net, each playing 45 minutes. Lammer made five saves with one goal against, while Fazio had two goals against and five saves.

UP NEXT FOR THE RETRIEVERS: UMBC will host its final non-conference game of the season on Thursday, Sept. 22 when they play Robert Morris. The game is set to kick off at 7 p.m. at Retriever Soccer Park.
