Women's Soccer Travels to George Washington for Thursday Night Match

BALTIMORE, Md. - Following a 4-1 road loss to UNCW on Sunday, Aug. 28, the UMBC women's soccer team will stay out on the road as they travel to our nation's capital to face the George Washington Colonials on Thursday, Sept. 1 at GW Soccer Field on the Mount Vernon Campus. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.

SCOUTING THE RETRIEVERS:
-To start a four-game road stretch, UMBC opened with a 4-1 loss to UNCW on Sunday, Aug. 28.

-After a corner kick by freshman Nikki Saad, junior Angela Kuhn headed in the only goal of the game for UMBC. It also served as Kuhn's first goal as a Retriever.

-Saad leads the team with five points off two goals and one assist. She also has two game-winning goals to start her career.

-CAREER WATCH: Redshirt-senior Alexa Quaranta is three shots away from tying Viviana Saraceno for tenth all-time in shots in a career (109). She is also four goals away from tying for ninth (18).

SCOUTING THE COLONIALS:
-George Washington has remained perfect on the season, posting wins over St. Francis (Pa.) (1-0), Cleveland State (2-1), and most recently, LSU (3-1). The game against LSU was the first time GW had competed against a Power Five school since 2011, when the Colonials loss to Iowa, 4-1.

-Senior MacKenize Cowley leads the team with three goals and six points. An All-Atlantic 10First Team selection in 2015, Cowley scored the game-winner for the Colonials in their home opener against St. Francis.

-In goal, redshirt-junior Miranda Horn has started every game, while making 11 saves and allowing no goals to be scored. In relief appearances, sophomore Anna Tapen has allowed two goals.

-In the latest NSCAA Mid-Atlantic rankings, George Washington held onto the number five spot.
