Scouting the Retrievers (0-1)

-UMBC jumped out to an impressive 2-0 lead against Navy in its season opener, but the Retrievers were unable to hang on as the Mids scored three-straight goals, including the last two within 1:40 of each other, to take the 3-2 victory on Friday night at Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.

-The Retrievers received both of their goals on Friday night from their midfield. The first coming off a pass from sophomore back Madison Koenig (Crofton, Md./South River) for sophomore midfielder Gabby Boehmer (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) to finish on a header. The second coming off a dump pass from red-shirt junior forward Alexa Quaranta (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) for freshman midfielder Jenna Denis (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) to net for her first collegiate goal.

-Senior goalkeeper Jen Nance (Millersville, Md./Severna Park) was challenged in the first game of the season, as Navy was able to score three second-half goals. Nance made one save on the night, but two of the Mids three goals came off of corner kick opportunities. Navy finished the night with a 7-4 advantage in corners.

-After tying for second in the conference last season, the Retrievers, who welcome eight newcomers to their roster in 2015, were picked to finish in third in the annual America East Preseason Coaches' Poll. Fourth-year head coach Leslie Wray has registered a 25-10-5 record over the last two seasons with the Retrievers, but UMBC returns just four starters from last year's roster.

Scouting the Bison (1-0)

-Bucknell defeated Towson, 1-0, in its season opener on Friday on the Bison's home field. Junior midfielder Cora Climo registered four shots on the night and tallied the game's only goal off a pass from senior midfielder Devan Schulte. Bucknell outshot the Tigers, 16-4, in the contest and held a 12-2 advantage in corners on the night.

-Junior goalkeeper Jessica Ratner earned the shutout victory versus Towson after making three saves for the Bison.

-The Bison were picked to finish fifth in the Patriot League after posting a 10-9-2 overall mark and placing fifth in the conference. Bucknell is under new leadership in 2015, as head coach Kelly Kuss beings her tenure with the program. The Bison graduated seven seniors from last year's roster, but return a majority of their scoring from last season's squad.

Inside the Series
