Brown's Goal Lifts Women's Soccer Past Robert Morris, 1-0, on Friday

Moon Township, Pa. -- Senior midfielder Jessy Brown (Plantation, Fla./American Heritage) scored for the third-straight game as the UMBC women's soccer team closed out non-conference play with a 1-0 road win at Robert Morris.

Brown's goal was her fifth of the season, fourth in the last three games. She connected on a header in the 22nd minute off a cross from freshman forward Lisa Nanov (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley), her sixth helper of the year. Junior back Nikki Boretti (Garmisch, Germany/Archbishop Spalding) was given the secondary assist on the play, her first of the season.

UMBC (8-2-0) was able to survive being outshot 11-6 by the Colonials (2-8-1), however only one of those shots was on net for the hosts. Junior keeper Jen Nance (Millersville, Md./Severna Park) stopped the hard one-timer from the center of the box in the 84th minute for her fifth clean sheet of the season.

The Retrievers finished off non-conference play with a three game win streak that saw them outscore their opponents 8-0. Brown had nine points in the three games, while Nanov had six points in the stretch (one goal, four assists).

The eight non-conference wins are the most in program history.

UMBC begins their defense of the America East championship with a 3 pm road match at Vermont on October 2nd. They then open their home conference schedule with a rematch of last season's title game against Stony Brook on October 5th at 1 pm.
