Women’s Soccer Falls to George Mason, 4-0

George Mason forward Tiana Kallenberger tallied two goals and an assist to lead the host Patriots (8-1-0) to a 4-0 victory over UMBC (0-5-1) Tuesday evening at George Mason Stadium.

The Patriots outshot the Retrievers, 17-3, in the first half, but led just 1-0 at halftime, as UMBC sophomore goalie Mo Van Vlerah (Ijamsville, Md./Northwest) made seven saves. But in the 33rd minute, George Mason forward Annie Lebherz found Kallenberger at the top of the box. Kallenberger turned and placed the ball in the bottom left of the goal to give the Patriots the lead.

In the 68th minute, Van Vlerah stopped a shot by midfielder Omolyn Davis, but Kallenberger collected the rebound and sent it into an open net. Less than 30 seconds later, Kallenberger found Lebherz, who put the ball in high on the right side for a 3-0 lead.

Then in the 88th minute, George Mason forward Jessica Pisasale sent a cross from the left side to forward Theresa DeLucca, who set up and scored high past a leaping Van Vlerah for the game's final goal.

Van Vlerah stopped a career-high 14 shots, while George Mason keeper Katie Frey did not record a save, as none of the Retrievers' three shots were on goal. Junior midfielder Elyse Bilardo (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) took two of UMBC's three shots.

The Retrievers return to action on Thursday, Sept. 24, when they host VMI at 5 p.m. at UMBC Soccer Stadium.
