Women's Soccer Drops 1-0 Heartbreaker to George Washington in Season Opener

Baltimore-George Washington's Meg Pyle scored on an errant UMBC pass to break a scoreless tie with 33 seconds remaining in regulation and give the Colonials a 1-0 victory in both team's season opener at UMBC Stadium.

The Retrievers had several chances throughout the game, out-shooting George Washington, 11-10, with five shots on goal to the Colonials' four, but they could not capitalize. The Retrievers also held a 5-2 advantage on corner kicks.

The game appeared headed for overtime until Pyle found the back of the net on a misplay by UMBC at 89:27.

George Washington goalie Amie Kern picked up the shutout while recording five saves. UMBC sophomore goalie Christine Bacinski stopped three shots in the loss.

The Retrievers return to action Sunday as they host Rider at 1 p.m. at UMBC Stadium.
