FIVE DIFFERENT RETRIEVERS SCORE AS WOMEN’S SOCCER DEFEATS DELAWARE STATE, 5-0

UMBC shot 12 times in the first stanza, but came away with just a 1-0 lead at halftime. In the second half, the Retrievers came out more aggressive, as sophomore Megan Jupiter (Brick, N.J./Brick) found the back of the net in the 48th minute to give UMBC a 2-0 advantage.

At 57:49, freshman Casey Smith (Apollo Beach, Fla./East Bay) centered a pass to classmate Alexis Rogowsky (Great Falls, Va./Langley) for UMBC's third goal. Smith added another assist at 59:50 when she found sophomore Andrea Perkinson (Laurel, Md./Laurel) open to give UMBC a 4-0 lead. Retriever sophomore Aryn Epstein (North Potomac, Md./Wooton/Long Island Univ.) rounded out the scoring in the 83rd minute when she drilled a shot into the upper right corner of the Delaware State goal.

For the game, UMBC outshot DSU, 31-2, and had more corner kicks, 13-1. Retriever goalie Robin Babaris (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/Sir Oliver Mowat) had one save in 74:20 of playing time, while senior Kelly Lizon (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Township) faced no shots in 15:40. For Delaware State, goalkeeper Whitney James (Baltimore, Md./City) played all 90 minutes and recorded 14 saves.

UMBC returns to action on Friday, September 24, when they host Marshall for a 4 p.m. game at the UMBC Soccer Stadium.
