Baltimore, MD-Two Delaware goals within the first four minutes of play set the tone for the Retrievers on opening day as they would lose 5-2 at the UMBC Soccer Stadium. Blue Hen sophomore forward Francesca Termini led the way for Delaware with a goal and an assist. A pass from Termini on a corner kick fell onto the head of teammate Ginna Lewing just 2:04 into the contest and the sophomore defenseman blasted it past UMBC's goalkeeper Becky Hicock for the game's first tally. Just 1:17 later, Termini struck again as she dribbled through the Retriever defense and placed a kick into the upper right hand corner of the net, giving the Blue Hens a 2-0 advantage. UMBC would pull close at 3-2 when junior forward Nicole Grinspoon launched a shot from 25 yards out that ricocheted off sophomore goalie Andrea Lunn's hands and into the net. The Retrievers would get no closer, however, as Delaware kept the pressure on, notching two more tallies before the final buzzer. In goal, Hicock faced 18 shots and made four saves while Lunn stopped six attempts in facing 10 shots. Delaware's record now stands at 1-0 while the Retrievers fall to 0-1.
