Baltimore, MD-After scoring zero goals their last outing, the UMBC women's soccer team exploded for five goals this afternoon in a non-conference win over Howard University at the UMBC Soccer Stadium. Freshman forward Lauren Cunningham, starting in replace of the team's second leading scorer in Nicole Grinspoon, led the offense for the Retrievers as she netted two goals on the day. Cunningham's first tally came at the 5:40 mark as she received a pass from senior midfielder Jamie Gerhart inside the goal box and lofted a shot over the hands of Howard goalkeeper Tamika Anola to give UMBC (8-5-1) a 1-0 lead.. Following fellow freshman Kim Sawyer's first goal of her collegiate career at 22:56, Cunningham notched her second goal of the game at 47:26 as she gathered in a rebound inside the goal box and beat Anola to the lower righthand side of the net. The Retrievers would dent the scoreboard on two more occasions as junior midfielders Laura Motley and Caitlin Kinsella scored at 68:51 and 87:47, respectively. UMBC's five goals ties a season high scoring output as they would outshoot Howard 15-6 overall.
