Women's Lacrosse Welcomes Seven Newcomers for 2019 Season

BALTIMORE - The UMBC women's lacrosse team will welcome seven new faces to the field for the 2019 campaign with Megan Cleverly (Middletown, Md./Middletown), Adriana D'Amore (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore), Rachel Ridgley (Owings Mills, Md./Franklin), Lexi Roberts (Baldwin, Md./Fallston/Army West Point), Olivia Schwiegerath (Frederick, Md./Oakdale), Sophia Shucosky (Lutherville, Md./Maryvale Preparatory), and Kelsey Weishaar (Sykesville, Md./Century).

Megan Cleverly
Middletown, Md./Middletown

BACKGROUND: Played midfield at Middletown High School under head coach Tyler White… In 2017, set the Middletown single-season draw control record with 109… Had an eight-point performance (4g,1a) and controlled 15 draws against against Linganore… Two-time All-County Second Team selection by the Frederick News Post… Also named a two-time Gambrill Division First Team selection… Played club lacrosse for Frederick Stars Lacrosse and Renegades… Also lettered in volleyball, where she set the single-season serve percentage record as a junior… Member of the math, science, and French Honor Societies in high school… Four-year recipient of Minds in Motion award… named to honor roll as a junior and high honor roll as a freshman and sophomore… Daughter of John and Maria Cleverly… Has two brothers, Johnny and Shane… Mother was a member of the Penn State equestrian team… Plans on majoring in computer science.

Adriana D'Amore
Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore

Four-year varsity player for Jackie Sowers at Linganore High School… Was called up to the varsity team her freshman year… Was top 20 in Frederick County in total points in 2016… All-County Second Team selection by the Frederick News Post in 2016… Played club lacrosse for Frederick Stars Lacrosse and Renegades… Earned a 3.5 GPA or higher in three straight years… Was a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Student Government Association in high school… Daughter of Dave and Paula D'Amore… Has one brother, Vinny… Used to compete as an Irish dancer… Would like to pursue a job in the government.

Rachel Ridgley
Owings Mills, Md./Franklin

BACKGROUND: Four-year letterwinner for Jan Rosenthaw and Jackie Gordon at Franklin High School… Led the Indians in goals and assists in three seasons… Earned team MVP in 2016… Was named First Team All-County the same year… Also lettered in soccer and basketball… Was captain of the soccer team freshman and sophomore year… Played club lacrosse for Check-Hers Elite Black and TLC… Daughter of Jeff Ridgley and Trish Cataneo… Has one sister, Kaleigh, who plays lacrosse at Lynchburg College.

Lexi Roberts
Baldwin, Md./Fallston/Army West Point

PRIOR TO UMBC: Played one season at Army West Point… Saw action in two games … played 14:16 minutes between the pipes, making two saves and allowing one goal … posted a goals-against average of 4.21 and a save percentage of .667 … made her collegiate debut against Central Connecticut State on Feb. 21 … stopped her only shot faced in 5:20 minutes opposite the Blue Devils … played 8:56 minutes against Wofford on March 8 … made a save and allowed a goal opposite the Terriers.

BACKGROUND: Four-year letterwinner at Fallston High School under head coach Michael McTeague… Helped the Cougars to four straight state championships, making the finals in 2014 and 2017… In a playoff game against Bel Air, recorded 18 saves… Recipient of the Scholar-Athlete Award in 2017 and Sportmanship Award in 2016 and 2017… Named All-County in 2017… Played club lacrosse for Green Turtle and Legends… Daughter of Dan and Chris Roberts… Has two brothers, Corey and Zach, and a twin sister, Lea… Dad played basketball at Juniata College and brother Corey played lacrosse at Hood College… Brother Zach currently plays lacrosse at Mount St. Mary's and sister Lea plays club lacrosse at Maryland… Plans on majoring in biology with career ambitions to be an anesthesiologist.

Olivia Schwiegerath
Frederick, Md./Oakdale

Four-year letterwinner for Beth Nave at Oakdale High School… Named All-County First Team by the Frederick News Post in 2017… Named team captain her junior year… Scored 54 points (32g, 22a) as a junior to go along with 61 draw controls, 29 ground balls and six caused turnovers… Named an Academic All-American by U.S. Lacrosse in 2017… Member of the National Honors Society, National Latin Honors Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Student Government Association… Played club lacrosse for Frederick Stars Lacrosse and Rebels Lacrosse… Daughter of Tom and Amy Schwiegerath… Has two siblings, Courtney and Brighton… Courtney played lacrosse at Shepard University… Plans on studying bioinformatics and computational biology.

Sophia Shucosky
Lutherville, Md./Maryvale Preparatory

BACKGROUND: Played goalie for Kim Debanksi at Maryvale Preparatory Participated in the 2016 Under Armour Underclass Tournament… Also lettered in field hockey, helping the Lions earn a championship in 2017… Played club lacrosse for Diamonds Lacrosse and TLC… Also played club ice hockey for Navy Youth Ice Hockey and Tri-City Eagles… Daughter of Tony and Erin Shucosky… Has one brother, Chris, and one sister, Laura… Plans to major in criminal justice or psychology.

Kelsey Weishaar
Sykesville, Md./Century

BACKGROUND: Four-year letterwinner at Century High School under head coach Becky Groves… As a junior, was a member of the Knights' state championship team… Also a four-year letterwinner in field hockey and basketball… Earned straight A's in 15 of her 16 semesters in high school… Member of the National Honors Society, National Society of STEM Future Leaders, and National Academy of Student Leaders… Is a Certified Nursing Assistant and Certified Geriatric Assistant… Daughter of Gary and Kim Weishaar… Has one sister, Lindsey, and one brother, Colby… Father played baseball and football at Towson and sister is a member of the Stevenson swim team… Plans on majoring in biology with career ambitions to be a physician's assistant.
