VESTAL, N.Y. – The UMBC women's lacrosse team dropped an 11-5 decision to the Binghamton Bearcats on Wednesday afternoon in America East action. The Bearcats move to 5-6 overall and 2-1 in America East play, while the Retrievers fall to 9-4 on the season and 1-2 in conference action.
Binghamton opened the first half with a four-goal run that junior Lauren McDonald (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) broke up at the 10:45 mark. The Bearcats added another goal to take a 5-1 lead before senior Carolyn Jamison (Westminster, Md./Westminster) scored off a free position shot to cut the lead to 5-2.
Binghamton would score two more goals to end the first half leading UMBC, 7-2.
The Retrievers came out blazing in the second half as they scored three straight to cut the Bearcats' lead to just two. Freshman Kristyn Staley (Middletown, Md./Middletown) scored the first goal of the period at 25:24 mark, followed by a goal from sophomore Zoë Pekins (Columbia, Md./Hammond). Jamison added her second of the day to close Binghamton's gap to 7-5.
The Bearcats ended the game on a four-goal run to seal the 11-5 victory.
On the day, Jamison led the Retrievers with two goals. Jamison and senior Caitlin Miller (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) controlled three draws each.
In goal, Taylor Passuello moved to 3-2 on the season after making 11 saves on the day. Senior Kelsey Major (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) fell to 6-3 on the year but made nine saves for the Retrievers.
UMBC will return to the field on Saturday, April 7 as they host the Albany Great Danes. The opening draw is set for 12 p.m.
