BURLINGTON, Vt. – UMBC women's lacrosse sophomore Jennie Milligan (Crofton, Md./South River) recorded her second hat trick in the last three games, but Vermont scored three of the last four goals of the game to edge out the Retrievers, 11-10, in America East action on Saturday at Virtue Field.
In a game that featured eight ties, it was the Retrievers that jumped out in front to a two-goal lead, 6-4, with 9:17 to go in the first half, but the Catamounts outscored UMBC, 7-4, over the final 31:16 en route to the victory. The Vermont goal leader Jessica Roach registered five of her seven goals on the day during the stretch to help guide the Catamounts to victory.

Davey registered three draw controls, two goals and one assist on the day. Senior Abby Wilson (Bel Air, Md./Fallston) extended her scoring streak to 15 games with an assist.
UMBC dropped the see-saw battle to fall for the first time in the last four contests to move to 6-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play. Vermont wins its league-opener and is victorious for the fifth straight game to improve to 8-3.
UMBC freshman Laura Osborne (Chesapeake Beach, Md./Huntingtown) helped the Retrievers jump out to a 1-0 lead on a free position goal 45 seconds into the contest. Milligan scored her first of three goals on the day on a pass from Wilson to put UMBC on top, 2-1.
Roach scored back-to-back goals to give the Catamounts their first lead of the day, 3-2, with 21:30 left in the half. Vermont scored its third straight, this one from Danielle Seifert, to jump out in front, 7-6, 43 seconds into the second half. Roach chipped in another score with less than four minutes gone in the half to help the Catamounts add to their lead and go out in front, 8-6.
Milligan registered the hat trick to stop the Catamount run and bring the Retrievers back within one, 8-7. Red-shirt sophomore Sam Nolan (Fallston, Md./Fallston) snagged the rebound on a free position attempt from Wilson and blasted home the game-tying goal. Roach continued to be a problem for the Retrievers, scoring her sixth of the day to once again tie the score, 9-9. A goal from Vermont's Courtney Cole with 20:36 to go gave the Catamounts an advantage, 10-9. UMBC's Carolyn Jamison (Westminster, Md./Westminster) knotted the contest at 10 with 18:18 on the clock, but Roach's free position score with 14:51 proved to be the game-winner as the Catamounts held the Retrievers to one shot over the final 14 minutes of the contest to hang on for the victory.
UMBC goalkeeper Kelsey Major (5-4) and Vermont's Meg Hopkins (8-3) each registered eight stops on the day.
