RETRIEVER UPDATE: The Retrievers (7-9, 2014) will open 2015 returning their top two point-getters in senior midfielder Alyssa Semones (Westminster, Md./Westminster/Penn State) and senior Abby Wilson (Bel Air, Md./Fallston). Semones earned America East Second Team honors for the second straight season after piloting UMBC's offense with a team-best 27 goals and 32 points. She picked up a career-best 37 ground balls, ranking third in the conference (2.31 ground balls per game). Wilson led the team in points (33) and posted 20-plus goals for the third straight season (21). She added 12 assists, second on the team, and was tied for eighth in the Amerca East in game-winning goals (two).
OWL UPDATE: Temple (6-10, 2014) opens up the season with six of their top eight scorers from 2014 returning. Junior Preseason All-BIG EAST selection Nicole Tuernan tallied 29 goals for the Owls last season, with 18 coming in conference play. Jaqi Kakalecik is expected to start in the cage for Temple on Wednesday. The redshirt junior played in all 16 games in 2014, starting the final 10 and was named to the BIG EAST Second Team.
INSIDE THE SERIES: The Owls lead the all-time series, 2-1, however, the two Temple victories came in 1987 and 1988. The Retrievers earned their first ever victory over the Owls, when the two teams resumed their series after 26 years at UMBC Stadium on March 22nd, 2014. Abby Wilson, Alyssa Semones and Kristen Bilney each recorded hat tricks for UMBC in the 11-9 win.
