Women’s Basketball Heads to Vermont for Midweek Contest

Baltimore, Md.-- UMBC women's basketball travels north to take on the Catamounts on Wednesday morning on ESPN+. The Retrievers are coming off a 62-41 loss to UMass Lowell on Saturday. No Retriever reached double figures, with freshman Eryn Fisher (Kingsley, Australia) leading the way with seven points.

Scouting the Retrievers:

-UMBC is coming into the contest with Vermont at 8-17, 1-11 AE on the year after dropping their fifth straight, 62-41 to UMass Lowell on Saturday. The Retrievers struggled from the floor, as freshman Eryn Fisher led the team offensively with seven points.

-Summers is the only Retriever averaging double figures, scoring at an 11.6 points per game clip. She is also the team leader on the boards, grabbing 6.6 per game, fourth best in the league. Te'yJah Oliver (Clinton, Md./Riverdale Baptist) is second on the team at 9.8 ppg. Tyler Moore (Portsmouth, Va.) leads the team from deep, shooting 39 percent from three with a team best 45 three pointers made.

Scouting the Catamounts:

-Vermont comes into the game with the Retrievers at 10-15, 6-7 AE on the year and are coming off a 76-48 loss to Hartford on Saturday. The Catamounts are 6-8 at home this year, as opposed to 4-7 in true road games.

-Hanna Crymble is the only Catamount in double figures, averaging 14.1 ppg. She is second on the team in rebounding at 5.7 per game. Candice Wright is the leading rebounder, pulling down 6.1 rpg while chipping in 9.2 ppg. The Catamounts are shooting 37.6 percent from the floor as a team, but just 26.6 percent from three.

All-Time Series:

-This will be the 34th all-time meeting between the two schools, with the Catamounts holding a slim 18-15 lead, including a win the first matchup earlier this year. The Retrievers dropped a 58-44 decision back on January 23 in Baltimore that saw sophomore Janee'a Summers (Bound Brook, N.J.) record a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

-The Retrievers are 7-8 all-time in game played in Burlington, including wins in the last four contests.

Milestone Watch:

-Janee'a Summers is just one point away from scoring her 500th point of her young career. Summers is currently sitting at 499 career points in just one plus seasons as a Retriever. 

Making Moore History: 

-Junior Tyler Moore is have a career year for the Retrievers, and is leaving her mark on the program in a number of ways. Moore is currently tenth all-time in three pointers attempted with 337 and fourth in percentage at 34.7.

-She currently owns the fifth best three-point percentage in a single season at 38.8 percent and is seventh in three pointers made by a junior with 45 this year.

Conference Honors:

-Junior Te'yJah Oliver and freshman Kayla Jackson (Rochester, N.Y.) were named America East Player and Rookie of the week respectively on December 24 for their efforts against Morgan State.

-Oliver and Jackson join Janee'a Summers, Paula Rubio (Madrid, Spain) and O'lesheya Braxton (Paterson, N.J.) who earned America East awards earlier in the season.

-The Retrievers will play two of the last three games of the year at home, starting with UAlbany on Saturday, Feb. 23. Tip-off with the Great Danes is set for 1 p.m. and will be the team's annual Play 4 Kay game.
