UMBC held the lead for a majority of the second half, before a fourth quarter surge by the Hawks propelled them to the win. Senior Laura Castaldo (West Nyack, N.Y./Clarkstown South) led the way with 19 points, scoring her 1,000th career point.

Scouting the Retrievers:
-Last time out the Retrievers fell on senior night to Hartford 61-54 this past Thursday. UMBC held the lead for a majority of the second half, before a fourth quarter surge by the Hawks propelled them to the win. Senior Laura Castaldo led the way with 19 points, scoring her 1,000th career point.
-Castaldo leads the Retrievers in scoring at 11.8 ppg as UMBC is averaging 51.5 points per game as a team. Castaldo is fourth on the team in rebounding, pulling down 3.2 boards per game. Freshman Janee'a Summers (Bound Brook, N.J./Bound Brook) is averaging 6.8 ppg, leading the team with 5.7 rpg. Brittani Burgess (White Plains, Md./St. Mary's Ryken/VCU) sets the table on offense dishing out 2.8 assists per game.
Scouting the River Hawks:
-UMass Lowell comes into the contest at 4-24, 1-14 AE after dropping a 70-49 decision to New Hampshire on Thursday night. The River Hawks held the lead for a majority of the game, but a second half surge by the Wildcats propelled them to the win.
-Kayla Gibbs leads the team in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 12.5 ppg and 8.5 rpg. Brianna Rudolph and Paula Lopez are averaging over nine points per game at 9.5 and 9.0 respectively. Lopez is dishing out a team best 2.7 assists per game.
-This will be the 10th all-time meeting between UMBC and UMass Lowell with the Retrievers holding a slim 5-4 advantage, including a 66-54 victory in January.
-UMBC has won the last five meetings after the River Hawks won the first four.
#AEChamps First Round Coming to Baltimore:
-With the loss by UMass Lowell to New Hampshire on Thursday, the Retrievers are locked into the eight seed in the upcoming America East Tournament, and will host UMass Lowell in the First Round at the UMBC Event Center. The game is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 28 with the winner advancing to the quarterfinals to take on either Albany or Maine in Portland.

UMBC Basketball Has a New Home:
-UMBC women's and men's basketball, as well as the department of athletics is set to move into the brand new UMBC Event Center in the coming weeks. The $90 million facility will house UMBC athletic department, men's and women's basketball and volleyball. The men will open the facility against Vermont on Saturday, Feb. 3 while the women will host Binghamton in their first game in the arena on Thursday, Feb. 8.
-Construction began in February 2016 and will be located next to Retriever Soccer Park and host various events from sporting events to graduations and concerts.
-UMBC will host the River Hawks in the 2018 America East Tournament First Round on Wednesday, Feb. 28. Tip-off will be at 6 p.m. at the UMBC Event Center. For more information, check out UMBCRetrievers.com and AmericaEast.com.
