BOSTON – UMBC women's basketball senior guard Taylor McCarley (Bowie, Md./Academy of Holy Cross) was named the America East Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 6, the league announced Monday. McCarley helped lead the Retrievers to a 2-0 week, averaging 16.0 points, 5.5 assists and 3.5 steals per game. This is the senior's second Player of the Week award this season.
Against Maine, McCarley led the Retrievers with 21 points, six steals and six assists in a 66-62 victory. The senior was 8-11 from the field and 5-7 from the free throw line. Her six steals against the Black Bears moved McCarley into third place all-time at UMBC with 224, passing Valerie Bowles.
In the win against Binghamton, McCarley netted 11 points to go with nine rebounds, five assists and one steal.
McCarley has registered at least one assist and one steal in the last 14 games (last time was 11/27 vs. Princeton - 2 assist, no steals).
Overall on the week, McCarley was 10-17 (58.5%) from the field and 11-14 (73.3%) from the charity stripe.
UMBC will be back in action on Thursday, Feb. 9 as the Retrievers travel to Hartford for an America East matchup. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. on ESPN3.
