BOSTON – For the second week in a row, UMBC women's basketball freshman guard Tyler Moore (Portsmouth, Va./Norfolk Academy) has been named the America East Rookie of the Week for the week ending Jan. 2, the conference announced Monday. In a 2-1 week for the Retrievers, Moore averaged 13.7 ppg and 4.7 rpg after producing two double-digit outputs, giving her six in the last eight games.
At the Cavalier Classic hosted by Virginia, Moore helped lead the Retrievers to a 62-51 victory over Liberty after chipping in a team-high 16 points, going 4-9 from beyond the arc. Moore was also 2-2 from the charity stripe. In the Retrievers' lone loss of the week to Virginia, Moore again led the team with eight points, while grabbing five boards and adding three takeaways. Thanks to her performance, Moore was named to the Cavalier Classic All-Tournament team.
In the non-conference finale against Coppin State, Moore chipped in 17 points after going 4-of-9 from long distance; the rookie has now made at least four treys in five of the last six games. She also had five boards and matched her season-high with three steals.
Moore and the Retrievers will be back in action on Wednesday, Jan. 4 as they head to Binghamton to open America East conference player. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. on ESPN3.
