BOSTON, Mass. – UMBC women's basketball senior guard Taylor McCarley (Bowie, Md./Academy of Holy Cross) was named the America East Player of the Week for the week ending Nov. 14, the league announced Monday. McCarley had a standout week for UMBC, averaging 21.0 points and 3.5 rebounds in a 2-0 week.
The senior reset her career-high in points on Friday's 67-56 win over Columbia with 34, going 11-15 from the field and 10-13 from the free throw line; her previous career-high of 31 points was set back at Vermont in 2014. She also added four rebounds, three assists and a steal against the Lions. McCarley followed up that performance with three boards and two steals against Gettysburg, while going 4-7 from the field in the team's 71-51 victory.
Overall, McCarley was 15-22 (68.2%) from the field, including going 2-2 from behind the arc and was 10-14 (71.4%) from the charity stripe.
UMBC will be back in action on Saturday as the Black and Gold host local rivals UMES with a 1 p.m. tip. The game will serve as they first half of a doubleheader at the RAC, as the men's basketball team will face Kennesaw State at 3 p.m.
