BOSTON, Mass. – UMBC women's basketball senior guard Taylor McCarley (Bowie, Md./Academy of Holy Cross) and senior forward Pandora Wilson (Gaithersburg, Md./Academy of Holy Cross) have been named to the America East Preseason All-Conference team, the conference announced today.
Last season, McCarley garnered first-team All-Conference and All-Defensive team honors after finishing the season ranked sixth in scoring (15.0 points per game), second in assists (5.1), and fourth in steals (2.5) amongst league players. She also broke the program record for free throws made (400) and free throws attempted (565) in a career, while also scoring her 1,000th point on February 20 against Vermont.
Wilson, who was tabbed to the All-Conference second team last season finished 2015-16 ranked a spot behind McCarley in scoring (14.6 points per game), while ranking sixth in rebounds (7.4); she also led the Retrievers with 230 total rebounds.
"Taylor and Pandora are very deserving of this honor. They've worked very hard the last few years to reach their highest potential and they've both done that," head coach Phil Stern said. "But, the most important thing to them right now is the team and not the individual awards."
Albany's Imani Tate, Binghamton's Imani Watkins, Hartford's Deanna Mayza, and Maine's Sigi Koizar join McCarley and Wilson on the team. The women's basketball preseason poll will be released tomorrow, Oct. 20 at 11 a.m.
UMBC will open the season on Friday, Nov. 11 as they travel to Columbia for a rematch with the Lions.
