BALTIMORE – UMBC Women's Basketball Head Coach Phil Stern has added junior college standout Chukwuma Chiamaka (Lagos, Nigeria/Eastern Arizona College) to the 2015-16 roster.
"We are thrilled to have CC join our family," Stern said. "She brings so much experience, on and off the court. Our fans will lover her relentless play."
Chiamaka, a 5-11 forward, has played two seasons for Eastern Arizona College and will join the Retrievers with two years of eligibility remaining. The Nigerian native ranked 23rd in the nation in rebounding as a freshman, helping EAC to an appearance in the NJCAA National Tournament in 2014. Chiamaka Earned All-Region and All-Conference First Team honors for the 2014-15 season, as well as being named a NJCAA All-America Honorable Mention.
The Retrievers posted a 12-19 overall record during the 2014-15 season and returned to the America East Championships semifinals for the first time since 2012 with a 49-47 victory against third-seeded Stony Brook in the quarterfinals. UMBC had a pair of America East All-Conference honorees in junior Capree Garner (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) and sophomore Taylor McCarley (Bowie, Md./Academy of Holy Cross). The Retrievers graduated a pair of seniors in Dana Lewis (Brodhead, Wis./Brodhead) and Janelle Saling (Lathrop, Mo./Lathrop).
