Women's Basketball Heads to Long Island to Face Stony Brook Wednesday Evening

UMBC travels to New York to take on the Stony Brook Seawolves on Wednesday, Feb. 11 at the Island FCU Arena. The Retrievers head back home to play Vermont (Feb. 14) before going back up to New York to play at Albany (Feb. 18). RETRIEVER UPDATE: After losing nine in a stretch of 10 games, the Retrievers (8-15, 3-7 America East) have captured two of their last three with to a victory at Binghamton on Jan. 28 and a win in the RAC Arena on Saturday Feb. 7 against New Hampshire. Sophomore guard Taylor McCarley led the charge for the Retrievers in their last game with 29 points and 10 rebounds including an impressive 17-of-21 performance at the free throw line. McCarley dropped another 24 points in the Binghamton win along with the double-double performance of junior guard Capree Garner (15 points, 10 rebounds). Garner is first on the team and second in the league in scoring at 18.6 points per game. She also leads the Retrievers in rebounding at 5.4 per game. 

SEAWOLF UPDATE:  In their previous game, sophomore Kori Bayne-Walker and senior Sabre Proctor scored 23 points apiece to lead Stony Brook (13-10, 6-4 America East) to a 74-62 road win at Vermont Wednesday night. Bayne-Walker added six assists and played 40 minutes for the second straight game. Sophomore Christa Scognamiglio scored 15 points and went 4-for-5 from beyond the arc, and senior Jessica Ogunnorin grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds. Proctor is the Seawolves' leading scorer for the year, averaging 15.3 points per game.

PREVIOUS MEETING:  The Retrievers ran into a hot-shooting  Stony Brook squad in their last matchup. SBU knocked down 53 percent of its shots to defeat UMBC, 66-50, on Jan. 14 at the RAC Arena.

INSIDE THE SERIES: Stony Brook won three matchups against the Retrievers last season and another one earlier this season to take the slight 14-12 edge in the all-time series.
