America East Release

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – UMBC freshman guard Taylor McCarley (Bowie, Md./Academy of Holy Cross) led the Retrievers in scoring and posted career-highs in both points and steals during a pair of contests last week to earn her first America East Rookie of the Week honors.

The rookie guard shot 44.4 percent from the floor for the week and averaged 12.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game during the week.

McCarley knocked down 9-of-12 free throws against Maine to finish with a career-best 16 points, while matching a career-high with six rebounds, playing all 40 minutes of action for the Retrievers. Despite foul trouble against UMass Lowell on Saturday, McCarley hit four-of-nine shots from the field to chip in eight points, in addition to snagging a career-best four steals.

McCarley is second on the team in scoring (8.5) and steals (1.1) on the season.

The honor marks the third America East award received by the Retrievers during the 2013-14 campaign.
