CAMBRIDGE, MASS. – UMBC women's basketball freshman Lauren Chase (Bowie, Md./Riverdale Baptist) was named America East Rookie of the Week for the second straight week and third time this season, the conference office announced on Monday.

The award for Chase comes after leading the Retrievers to a win in their only game last week, a 73-47 victory over America East rival Stony Brook.  In the game against the Seawolves, Chase nearly recorded her second double-double of the season netting 13 points and registering 9 assists.  She also grabbed six rebounds in the win. 

For the season, Chase is averaging a conference best 4.3 assists overall and 6.5 assists in conference games.  She is also leading the league with 3.0 steals per America East contest.

In addition to winning the weekly award last week, the first in conference play, Chase was named Rookie of the Week back on Nov. 14, following the Retrievers' season opening wins over Morgan State and Monmouth. 

Following today's game with Hartford, the UMBC women's basketball team hits the road to take on Binghamton on Thursday evening.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
