Brown and Kurowski Named Nominees for America East Women’s Basketball Fans’ Choice Player of the Year

America East Fans' Choice Player of the Year Voting

CAMBRIDGE, MASS. – UMBC women's basketball seniors Erin Brown (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) and Michelle Kurowski (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville) have been nominated for the 2011-12 America East Women's Basketball Fans' Choice Player of the Year.

Kurowski is the active scoring leader in the America East and places third all-time at UMBC with 1,619 points in her four year career.  She has also started the second most games in school history (113) and is the second most accurate free throw shooter (85.6 %) at UMBC.  This year, she ranks second in the conference in scoring, averaging 13.2 points per game and has scored in double figures in each of the Retrievers' past 13 contests.

Brown leads the America East in scoring this year, averaging 14.8 points per game.  She also ninth in the league in field goal percentage (.413) and tenth in rebounding (6.6 rpg). 

The senior forward currently sits at seventh in school history with 1,308 career points.  Brown, along with Kurowski, is one of twelve Retrievers to ever score 1,000 points and grab 500 rebounds.

Voting for Fans' Choice Player of the Year will take place on the America East Facebook page and will run until 12 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28.
