CAMBRIDGE, MASS. – UMBC senior forward Erin Brown (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) was named the 2012 America East Co-Player of the Game, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Brown shares the honor with University of New Hampshire's Denise Beliveau. Both seniors earned ten Player of the Game honors during the season to garner the end of the year award.
Brown, who scored 20 or more points in eight games this season, finished ranked second in the conference with 14.4 points per game. The senior currently sits sixth all-time in UMBC history with 1,325 career points.
She also ranks tenth in the conference in rebounding, averaging 6.6 boards per contest. In addition, Brown leads the league in 3-pointers made, making 64 baskets from long range, during the 2011-12 season.
The Player of the Game award was determined by tabulating award winners from the regular season. At the conclusion of each America East home game, a player was named the Player of the Game. Just one player was tabbed in non-conference games, while a player from each team was recognized during conference games.
The league's annual awards, including the all-conference teams, as well as Player, Rookie and Coach of the Year, will be announced later this week. The women's honors will be unveiled at the women's awards reception on Thursday, March 1 at 12 p.m.
Brown and the Retrievers head to Hartford to take on fourth-seeded New Hampshire and Beliveau in the quarterfinals of the 2012 America East Basketball Championship presented by Newman's Own on Fri., March 2. Tip-off at the University of Hartford's Chase Family Arena is scheduled for 2:15 p.m.
