Women's Basketball Hosts League Leading Boston U. for Midday Madness on Wednesday

BALTIMORE, MD. - The UMBC women's basketball team hosts Boston University on Wednesday at the RAC Arena during Midday Madness, presented by the UMBC Summer Day Camp.  Tip-off is scheduled for 12:02 p.m. with the game being aired live on ESPN3.

RETRIEVER UPDATE: UMBC is now 11-9 and 5-2 in AmericaEas t play following Sunday's road win at Vermont, 67-58. Senior Michelle Kurowski led all scorers with a season-high 20 points, while junior Kristin Coles added 19, Sunday afternoon at Patrick Gymnasium.

Kurowski scored 16 of her 20 points in the second half, as the Retrievers pulled away, after leading by only two at the break. Seniors Erin Brown and Topé Obajolu were also in double figures, scoring 12 and 10 points respectively. Brown picked up her third double-double of the season, grabbing 12 rebounds against the Catamounts. Meanwhile, Obajolu, tied her own school record with seven blocks in the game.

Kurowski and Brown, who leads the America East in scoring with 15.5 points per game, are two of just 12 Retrievers ever in the 1,000-point/500-rebound club.

UMBC is the preseason favorite to win the America East Conference after winning the 2011 regular-season title with a 13-3 record in league play. The Retrievers posted a 20-12 overall mark, matching the school record for wins in a season, and earned a berth in the WNIT.

TERRIER UPDATE: Boston U. leads the America at 14-6 overall and 7-0 in conference play, after defeating Hartford, 53-46, on Sunday at home. The Terriers trailied 26-17 at the half, but outscored the visiting Hawks, 36-20, in the second period to pick up the win. Boston U. has won seven straight games and 11 of its last 13 contests. The Terriers were picked to finish second in the America East preseason poll, behind only UMBC.
