BALTIMORE, MD. - After a road loss on Saturday, the UMBC Women's Basketball team returns to the RAC to start a two-game homestand, beginning on Wednesday against America East rival Albany.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.

In the first matchup between these two clubs this season, Albany knocked off the Retrievers, 53-41, at SEFCU Arena in Albany, N.Y.  Junior Brittany Crowell (Brandywine, Md./Gwynn Park/James Madison) led UMBC with 15 points, while senior Michelle Kurowski (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville) scored ten.

RETRIEVER UPDATE: UMBC is now 11-11 and 5-4 in America East play following Saturday's loss at New Hampshire, 75-68.

Senior Erin Brown (16 pts, 10 reb), junior Kristin Coles (14pts, 17 reb) and Lauren Chase (11 pts, 11 reb) each recorded double-doubles for the Retrievers who outrebounded the Wildcats, 40-36.

Senior Michelle Kurowski scored a season-high 26 points for UMBC and has now scored double figures in the past eight games for the Retrievers.

Kurowski and Brown, who leads the America East in scoring with 15.5 points per game, are two of just 12 Retrievers ever in the 1,000-point/500-rebound club.

UMBC is the preseason favorite to win the America East Conference after winning the 2011 regular-season title with a 13-3 record in league play. The Retrievers posted a 20-12 overall mark, matching the school record for wins in a season, and earned a berth in the WNIT after falling to Hartford in the America East semifinals.

GREAT DANE UPDATE: Albany remains second in the America at 13-9 overall and 7-2 in conference play, despite Saturday's home defeat to Hartford, 65-57. Ebone Henry, the Great Danes' leading scorer on the season netted 13 points, as did Cassandra Calloway. Albany shot just 25 percent from long range (3-for-12) while committing 24 turnovers against the Hawks.

Earlier this season, Albany defeated UMBC, 53-41, at SEFCU Arena in Albany, N.Y. The Retrievers' 41 points is their lowest output in conference play, and ties for a season-low, set on Dec. 3 against Princeton.
