Women's Basketball Set to Take on Hartford in First Nationally Televised America East Game

BALTIMORE, MD. - The UMBC women's basketball team tavels to Connecticut to take on Hartford in a crucial late season America East contest.  Tip-off at the Chase Family Arena is scheduled for 12 p.m.

The game will be televised on CBS Sports, with Eric Frede and Leah Secondo on the call.  This is the first America East women's contest to be broadcast nationally.

RETRIEVER UPDATE: UMBC is now 14-12 and 8-5 in America East play following Wednesday's win over Binghamton, 63-50.

Freshman Lauren Chase led the way for the Retrievers scoring 16 points, dishing out five assists and grabbing three rebounds. Senior Michelle Kurowski also scored 16 points to give UMBC its longest winning streak since mid January.

Kurowski has now scored in double figures in a career-high 12 consecutive games.

Kurowski and Erin Brown, who leads the America East in scoring with 15.1 points per game, are two of just 12 Retrievers ever in the 1,000-point/500-rebound club.

UMBC is the preseason favorite to win the America East Conference after winning the 2011 regular-season title with a 13-3 record in league play. The Retrievers posted a 20-12 overall mark, matching the school record for wins in a season, and earned a berth in the WNIT after falling to Hartford in the America East semifinals.

HAWK UPDATE: Hartford sits tied for third in the America East with UMBC at 17-10 overall and 8-5 in conference play, after beating Maine, 59-40, on the road on Wednesday. Ruthanne Doherty led all scorers in the game with 19 points to give the Hawks their sixth straight wins. Earlier this season,

UMBC defeated Hartford, 71-59, at the RAC Arena in Baltimore. Each team had four players in double figures that night, led by UMBC senior Erin Brown who scored a season-high 24 points. Nikkia Smith led the Hawks in the loss with 14 points and six rebounds.
