, Mass.—UMBC freshman guard Michelle Kurowski (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville) was named America East Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week for the second week in a row, the conference announced Monday. The award covers all games from Dec. 8-14.
In UMBC's only game of the week, a 76-63 victory over Coppin State on Dec. 8, Kurowski tallied 20 points and a team-high five rebounds. She made seven of 12 field goal attempts, including two three-pointers, and she went 4-for-5 from the foul line.
Kurowski currently ranks second in scoring in the America East with 17.4 points per game this season.
UMBC freshmen have won four straight Rookie of the Week awards and six of the last seven dating to last season. Guard Katie Brooks earned the honor for weeks two and three, while forward Meghan Colabella was selected in each of the last two weeks of the 2007-08 campaign.
Kurowski and the Retrievers return to action on Thursday, Dec. 18, when they travel to Harrisonburg, Va., to take on James Madison.
