Chantay Frazier to Leave UMBC Women’s Basketball Team; Sarah Hill Joins Retrievers

UMBC senior guard Chantay Frazier has left the women's basketball team and withdrawn from the university to tend to family matters in her hometown of Carthage, Miss., head coach Phil Stern announced today.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Chantay and her family," Stern said. "It is our hope that she will someday return to the university to get her degree."

The lone senior on the Retrievers' 2008-09 roster, Frazier averaged 10.8 points and 4.2 rebounds per game while shooting 42.5 percent last season in her first year at UMBC after transferring from Seminole State College. She made 15 starts among her 30 games played.

In addition, Stern announced that 6-foot-3 freshman forward Sarah Hill (Richmond, Va./L.C. Bird) will join the Retrievers beginning with this weekend's games at the Iona Thanksgiving Classic.

Hill is also a middle blocker and outside hitter for UMBC's volleyball team who averaged 1.79 kills and 1.01 blocks per game in her first season for the Retrievers.
