Boston-UMBC junior guard Kristin Drabyn (Avon, Ind./Avon) was named the America East Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Dec. 31, the conference announced Tuesday. The award is the first of Drabyn's career.
Drabyn averaged 19.0 ppg in two wins last week to lead the Retrievers to the Battle at the Border title, setting new career highs for scoring in each contest. Against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Dec. 28, Drabyn scored 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting, including 3-of-8 from three-point range. The next day against Texas State, she topped that performance with 20 points on 6-of-10 shooting, with all of her field goals and attempts coming from long distance. The six three-pointers are a new career high and the most by a Retriever in nearly two years.
Drabyn was named to the All-Tournament Team after shooting 56.5 percent (13-for-23) in the two games, including 50 percent (9-for-18) from three-point range.
Drabyn currently ranks ninth in the league in scoring (11.4 ppg) and 10th in three-point field goal percentage (34.8 percent), and she leads the conference in three-pointers made (2.38 pg).
Drabyn and the Retrievers (7-6) open conference play Thursday evening as they host Boston University at 7 p.m. at RAC Arena.
