UMBC’S HEATHER MACY NAMED HEAD COACH AT PFEIFFER UNIVERSITY

- UMBC Women's Basketball Assistant Coach Heather Macy has resigned from her post as assistant coach/recruiting coordinator with the Retrievers to accept the Head Coaching position at Division II Pfeiffer University. Macy, a native of North Carolina, will return to her home state to assume her first collegiate head coaching position.

"Heather has done a tremendous job for us and now has the opportunity to full fill a dream of hers in becoming a collegiate head coach," said UMBC Women's Basketball Head Coach Phil Stern. "We wish her the best of luck and know she will do great things with the Pfeiffer University Women's Basketball program."

Macy began her first year with the Retrievers in 2004-05, taking on the roll of First Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator. Macy was responsible for orchestrating a Retrievers' defense that gave up 57.8 ppg last year, second best in the conference.

Macy prior to her start at UMBC was appointed head coach for the USA Athletes International Women's Basketball team during the summer of 2004, leading her squad to a perfect 7-0 record and a gold medal in the Collegiate Travel Tour in Australia.

A search to fill the Retrievers' vacancy will begin immediately.
