Baltimore, Md. – The UMBC women's basketball team earned their first ever win against the University at Albany (11-12, 6-8 AE) by a final of 69-53 at UMBC RAC Arena on Saturday night. The Retrievers (8-15, 3-11 AE) avenged a 52-46 loss to the Great Danes earlier this season with the win and snap a seven-game skid as four Retrievers scored in double-digits including a game-high 18 points from Matea Pender and 13 off the bench from Amanda Robinson.

The Retrievers got off to a slow start trailing 9-3 at the 12:32 mark and opened the game 1-of-8 from the field. Robinson came in off the bench adding an immediate spark to the Retrievers' line-up hitting a basket off an assist from fellow freshman Kristin Drabyn to pull UMBC within one at 9-8. After the game was tied at 12-12, Robinson hit the go ahead basket at the 7:46 mark to give the Retrievers the lead for good as UMBC built a 26-21 lead going into the break.

Robinson in the first half was 4-of-5 from the field with already career-highs of eight points and five rebounds. Robinson, a 6'2" center who was going up against the league's top rebounding club down in the paint, finished the game at 6-of-9 from the field, including stepping behind the arc and draining a trey, eight rebounds, three assists and three blocks in 20 minutes of action.

Out of the half UMBC started to increase their advantage as Matea Pender took over on the offensive end going 5-of-8 from the field and 4-of-4 from three-point range in the second stanza as the Retrievers started the second half on a 12-6 run to open up a double-digit lead.

UMBC's cushion never dipped below the double-digit mark the remaining 12 minutes of the game as four Retrievers went on to score double-digits. Sharri Rohde came close to a double-double with nine rebounds and 12 points and Brittnie Hughes scored 12 points for UMBC to go with Pender's 18 and Robinson's 13. Heather Luttrell grabbed nine rebounds and has eight or nine rebounds in each of the last three games. Luttrell also led the team with five assists as UMBC dished out 22 on the game.

For Albany, Alicia Learn tallied 14 points, Maree Jones was a force inside with 11 points and 12 rebounds, including six on the offensive glass as UAlbany finished with 15 offensive rebounds. Danielle Hutcheson and Jen Schumacher tallied 12 points each as well.

The UMBC Retrievers return to action against Vermont on Wednesday, Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. in UMBC RAC Arena.
