Hartford, Conn. – The America East Conference announced on Wednesday that UMBC junior forward Matea Pender (Sibenik, Croatia/The Croatian National Team) has been named to the all-conference third team. Pender leads the Retrievers into the America East Conference Tournament averaging 13.7 ppg and shooting 48.4 percent from three-point range.
Pender this season is a two time Player of the Week award winner by the America East Conference and went through a spat of five weeks (1-10-05 thru 2-13-05) holding the nation's top three point percentage. Pender recorded seven 20-plus point performances on the year and tallied a career high 30 points in the first meeting with Stony Brook back on Jan. 30.
Pender has played and started in all 27 games to date this season. She leads the team in scoring, rebounding, 5.7 rpg, and is averaging 19.0 ppg in UMBC wins this season.
The America East Conference announced all award winners at the annual conference banquet on Wednesday morning. Pender joins Lindsay Adams of New Hampshire, Bracey Barker from Maine, Rachael Vanderwal from Boston University and Ikea Witt from Hartford.
