Baltimore, Md. - UMBC Women's Basketball and Head Coach Phil Stern announced today that local standout guard Stacy Hunt (Davidsonville, Md./South River H.S.) has signed a National Letter of Intent to enroll at UMBC in the Fall of 2005. Hunt last season led South River High School to the 4A State Championship Game.
"Stacy will add speed and explosiveness to our program," said Head Coach Phil Stern. "She is a winner and comes from a wonderful family. I am thrilled that we got Stacy to stay home."
Hunt finished her senior year scoring 19.3 ppg, grabbing 7.0 rpg and averaging 5.3 assists per game. Hunt, who led South River to a 17-5 regular season record, scored 27 points in the state semifinal game, propelling her team to the state championship game. Hunt earned first team All-Anne Arundel County and second team All-Metro accolades by the Baltimore Sun and was named Anne Arundel County All-League and honorable mention All-Metro by the Washington Post.
Hunt joins Melissa Book (Raleigh, N.C./Millbrook High School), Mackenzie Butler (Reno, Nev./Reno High School) and Suzanne Morris (Cleveland, Tenn./Walker Valley High School) who signed during the early signing period.
