WOMEN'S HOOPS FALTERS DOWN STRETCH AT WAGNER; FOUR-GAME WIN STEAK HALTED

Staten Island, NY -- Senior center Meredith Kerns (Harrisburg, PA) scored a game-high 25 points to lead the Wagner College women's basketball team to a 66-56 Northeast Conference victory over the University of Maryland-Baltimore County tonight at the Spiro Sports Center. Wagner improves to 10-12, 8-5 in the NEC while UMBC falls to 10-12, 6-7 in the league. Wagner shot 54% in the first half making 12-22 field goals but still trailed 34-28 in halftime. UMBC's Lara Seamon (Richfield Spring, NY) led the Retrievers with nine first half points. Senior Yinka Bada (Silver Spring, MD) and junior Millette Green (Chesapeake, MD) each tallied eight points in the opening stanza. Wagner outscored UMBC 38-22 after halftime and shot 50% (24-48) from the floor for the first time all season. Wagner's Carrie Walker (Gibsonia, PA) recorded ten points while adding six rebounds. Wagner started the second half on a 19-6 run to gain a 47-42 advantage with 10:50 to go in the game. Kerns had six points in the spurt. UMBC would battle to tie the game at 52-52 with 4:43 remaining but the Seahawks went on an 11-2 run over the next 3:15 for a 63-54 lead with 1:00 left to play. Walker and Kerns combined for eight points during the deciding run. Seamon (10 rebounds) and Brown finished with 13 points while Bada ended the game with ten points
