WOMEN'S HOOPS FALLS AT WEST VIRGINIA; DROP THIRD STRAIGHT

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (December 1, 2001) - West Virginia defeated UMBC 69-45 in non-conference action at the WVU Coliseum Saturday. Sophomore guard Kate Bulger tallied a game-high 21 points on 8-12 shooting, including 4-7 from three point range, and totaled a season-high six assists in the victory. It was Bulger's 10th career 20+ point effort and fourth this season. UMBC trailed just 13-11 with 2:48 remaining in the first half but were outscored 10-2 to end the half and trailed 23-13 at the break. The Retrievers (1-3) were held to just 30.5 percent field goal shooting for the game, including 6-27 in the first half, while the Mountaineers shot 48.2 percent. Jessie Brown chipped in a team-high 10 points and five rebounds for the Retrievers. Freshmen guards Yolanda Paige and Sherell Sowho each chipped in with 12 points and six rebounds in the game. Sophomore Zsofia Horvath tallied a game-high nine rebounds and added six points for WVU.
