WOMEN'S HOOPS WINS THIRD STRAIGHT; SHUTDOWN TOWSON, 52-38

Baltimore, MD ---UMBC junior guard Jessie Brown scored a game-high 15 points to lead UMBC (4-3) to a 52-38, non-conference victory against Towson (1-7), Wednesday evening at the UMBC RAC Arena. The win was the third straight for the Retrievers and the fourth straight in their series with the Tigers. UMBC used a 9-2 run early in the second half to pull away from the Tigers, who trailed just 28-26 with 15:40 remaining in the contest. Brown scored five of her points during the run, which gave UMBC a 37-28 lead. Towson would get as close as seven points, 39-32, with 9:36 remaining on a lay-up by senior center Faith Jones, however UMBC outscored the Tigers 7-2 over the next 5:32 to grab a commanding 46-34 advantage with 4:04 remaining. The Retrievers would take their largest lead of the game at 52-36 with 1:43 remaining on a steal and lay-up by Brown. Towson grabbed an early 7-2 advantage at the 15:12 mark of the opening half. The Retrievers took the lead for good at 9-8 with 10:25 remaining on a three-point goal by freshman Christine Catalanotto from the left wing. UMBC stretched their lead to seven points at 21-14 with 2:53 remaining in the stanza on a lay-up by freshman Lara Seamon, and settled for a 24-18 halftime advantage. UMBC forced the Tigers into 27 turnovers and just thirty-four (15-for-53) percent shooting. The Retrievers committed 18 turnovers and shot thirty-eight (21-for-55) from the field. UMBC junior forward Millette Green added 8 points and a career-high 10 rebounds for the Retrievers. Along with her 15 points, Brown added 5 assists and 3 steals in 40 minutes of action. Towson was led by Jones, who finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds, her first "double-double" of the season. SO forward Jackie Richardson chipped in with 8 points and 6 rebounds. - - -UMBC - --
