Softball Inks Two to 2020 Class

Baltimore, Md. -- The UMBC Softball team has signed two future Retrievers to National Letters of Intent on Thursday, head coach Chris Kuhlmeyer has announced. Ashley Della Guardia and Brooke Dooley will join the Retriever Softball family and compete for UMBC beginning next fall.

"I'm very excited to welcome both Brooke and Ashley to our Retriever Softball family," said Kuhlmeyer. "We were very meticulous in what we were looking for with this class, and couldn't be happier with the end result of having these two top-notch young women join our program. They both bring additional power and versatility to our lineup, which we feel will help us to continue to build on our success in the always competitive America East Conference."


Ashley Della Guardia

Hometown: Phoenixville, Pa.

High School: Spring-Ford High School

Travel Team: Rock 18u Gold-Brennan

Positions Played: 1B/OF

Bats/Throws: R/R

High School academic accomplishments: multiple honors and distinguished honors, all state academic field hockey in fall 2018, 4.0 GPA all through high school

High School athletic accomplishments (all sports including softball): Field Hockey- 2nd team PAC, 2nd team all area (junior year), 1st team PAC, 1st team all area, 1st team all state (senior year). Softball- 2nd team PAC (freshman), 1st team PAC, 2nd team all area, 2nd team all state (sophomore), 1st team all PAC, 1st team all area, 1st team all state (junior). PA 6A State Semi Finalist 2017 and 2019. PAC Champion 2018-2019

Travel team accomplishments: With Delaware Cobras-Delaware and Maryland State Champions for two years and were USA softball national champions
