Baltimore, Md.- UMBC Softball head coach Chris Kuhlmeyer, fresh off leading the Retrievers to their first ever America East championship, has announced the signing of five recruits for the upcoming 2020 season. Two of the five players reign from Maryland, with one player coming from each of Colorado, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
"I'm very excited to welcome these five young women to the UMBC Softball family. All of them are able to play multiple positions and make an impact at the plate in different ways. As a second-year coach, I couldn't be happier with the talent that is being added in this first class. I expect these young ladies to come in and make an impact on the field and in the classroom right away," said Kuhlmeyer. "Our goal from a recruiting standpoint is to identify and get to know as much as possible the best talent in our own back yard, in this region, and also nationally that we feel will be at great fit for the academic challenges that UMBC has to offer, and help us with our goal of consistently competing for the America East Championship year in and year out. Our goal as a coaching staff is to graduate championship caliber student athletes that have succeeded at the highest level they possibly can in the classroom, on the field, and in the community when they graduate and go out and represent UMBC and Retriever Softball in wherever life takes them afterwards."
